Original junco wall sconce reissued by coderch, 1960s. This piece originated in the early 1960s, when valencian artisans began crafting wall sconces from organic materials such as reeds, rattan, and cane; hence its name, “junco.” subsequently, architect josep antoni coderch i de sentmenat, working in collaboration with federico correa and alfonso milá, reissued this piece, enhancing the interplay of light through overlays and shadows, and offered it to his clients. This piece was manufactured for years at mlb coderch.
what stands out is the way the rattan is worked: split lengthwise down the middle, it is woven in reverse and in a spiral, leaving the inner fiber of the rattan exposed and subtly concealing the light bulb inside the piece. It features an upper hook and two lower legs to provide stability against the wall.
masterpieces by the architect, such as the disa or cister pendant lamps, join this rattan piece, having become very famous and popular during that era.
today, there are new reissues of this piece, but the piece featured in this listing is an original from the 1960s.
note: each piece is handcrafted, so the size and shape of each may vary by several millimeters to 1 or 2 centimeters. Some of the pieces have been repaired and may show traces of varnish.
