Standing at over five feet high it is painted on paper mounted on a silk roll then affixed to a masonite base. The man's winter robe is in a deep blue - the official color of the Qing dynasty indicating he was a minor prince or nobleman. Fur collar and lining indicates he is a man of means along with his fur winter hat topped with a gold pendant embellished with precious stones. The square rank badge at the center of his robe includes a golden quail amidst clouds - a symbol of courage. Nearby is a "wan" the Chinese symbol which translated means "all things." Black frame with gold leaf border measures 35.25' wide x 61.25" high x 2" deep. NO glass glazing at this time. The artwork itself measures 29.75" side x 55.75" high. Painting is in very good condition with some minor paint loss due to age (see photos for details). Frame has minor dings, scratches, and marks commensurate with age. It is slightly warped which can be remedied by installation of glass and backing. See less
