Vintage Scandinavian Swedish Rug, Country of Origin: Sweden, Circa Date: Mid-Twentieth Century – Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter who was considered one of the most influential of the mid-20th century. His pieces often consisted of sharp geometric shapes and lines. He often worked in bold, primary colors. His abstract work also included a few more organic pieces with softened lines and neutral color palettes. This gorgeous piece in soft pastels captures the essence of the body of Mondrian’s work, only in a way that is suited to emerging style trends and color palettes.
The design of the rug is similar to other pieces in Mondrian’s “Tableau” series. Each of this series was simply numbered sequentially, sometimes accompanied by a composition number. The soft color palette is perfect for today’s design styles. Oranges and pinks are highlighted among grays and other neutral backgrounds. This color combination will add life and vibrancy to an otherwise neutral color palette.
Mondrian honored the natural world in his abstracts, often drawing colors and shapes from the world around him. This piece has a similar palette and design to pieces with titles such as “Peach Tree” or “Apple Tree.” His series of tree paintings were often superimposed on compositions, such as this one. It is easy to see the influence of spring flowers or an abundance of fruit in the colors chosen for this piece. In this way, this gorgeous piece is a wonderful way to bring the essence of nature to your indoor space.
This brilliant rug brings a light and airy feel to the space with its citrus and floral-inspired color palette. The muted tones flow harmoniously between the spaces created by the broken lines, adding an organic feel to the piece. This rug will be a welcome addition to a space with vintage or contemporary furniture. The colors have a fresh, spring feel that would be an excellent way to add color to an all-white room. Its soft presence would also make a soft landing for your feet in a bedroom. Anywhere you decide to use this piece, it will add a delightful and uplifting feel.
