Original paint and natural aged patina. Made in America from old growth pine likely in the New England area. Solid and still sturdy this piece was made with tongue and groove construction. The back boards were expertly cut and pieced together with spline joints. The original metal screens on the sides are still intact. The door closes with the original metal clasp and wood knob. The upper two drawers work great and have the typical small splits in the bottom which you can expect from an antique wood drawer. It looks like the top knobs have been replaced at some point but they are still old. The top and the three shelves are all made with a solid piece of wood.

Pie safes became a crucial part in the 1700’s before proper refrigeration to store perishables usually on the porch and away from the cook stove to keep things cooler for longer. The screening provided ventilation and pest control. What a great piece of American history!
