Henry François Farny 1847-1916 was an French born American painter and illustrator. His work was centered on the life of Native Americans in the 19th-century United States Farny's family left France in 1853 to emigrate to the United States.
Attracted by painting and drawing, the young man became an illustrator for magazines and books for children. When he was 18 years old, Harper's Weekly published in April 1889 a centerfold of " Sicilian and Italian Fisherman Dock - San Francisco " . I have included photos of the original publication for provenance. The last photo shows the transluscency with sunlight coming through.
This reproduction is a hand colored etched transparent panel that measures 8" H by 10" W and is framed in a gorgeous wood frame from Mexico for a total measurement of 17.5" W by 15.75" H and 1.75" D. Wired to hang.
