Top is bookmatched quilted maple with solid ebony inlay. Legs are fluted solid maple with solid ebony inlay. Signed "RSN '85". Richard Newman studied Jere Osgood at The School of the American Craftsman at RIT in the mid-1960s. After graduating from RIT Newman began a 40 year career as one of America's preeminent craftsman. When Bebe and Warren Johnson of Pritam an Eames wrote there book "Speaking of Furniture, Conversations with 14 American Masters" it was Newman's work that was chosen for the cover illustration. Richard makes little furniture any longer. Instead, he follows his passion for making banjos and teaching swing dancing. See less
