Judith drew inspiration from flora wherever she happened to be: the Midwestern landscapes near her longtime Illinois home, the deserts near her studio in Santa Fe, or exotic flowers she encountered on her travels.
Like many of her floral paintings, the composition of this oversized work is a "portrait" of the blooms, inviting the viewer to hone in and marvel at the details and forms of nature as an abstract composition. The plain blue background in "Red Ginger" lends a surreal mood - is this the sky? A wall behind a floral arrangement? Or a "portrait" background from the artist's imagination?
This work is a gallery-wrapped canvas, with the painting extending around the edges. No frame is necessary.
