An important and highly collectible Swedish rölakan flatweave carpet designed by Carl Malmsten, the “Capellagården” model takes its name from Malmsten’s influential school and workshop on the island of Öland. The design reflects Malmsten’s lifelong dialogue between craftsmanship and modernity, translating principles from fine cabinetmaking into textile form.

Handwoven in pure wool, the composition is built around a disciplined geometric grid, subtly echoing the logic and rhythm of traditional dovetail joinery—one of Malmsten’s defining signatures. The restrained yet expressive palette, combining warm ochre tones with deep brown and muted earth nuances, places the carpet firmly within the Scandinavian Modern movement of the post-war period.

The carpet has been professionally restored and carefully cleaned by a Swedish specialist in historic rölakan flatweave textiles. It is presented in very good condition, with strong structure, well-preserved colours, and a beautiful, even surface.
