This canvas … Read more This painting is produced entirely from salvaged and repurposed materials, including surplus canvas, used dropcloths, and leftover paints. This canvas is pieced together using torn canvas and dropcloth remnants with rough, unfinished edges which are sewn together and stretched over reused wood stretcher bars and then embellished with leftover artist paints from studio sessions when the artist is working on other original artworks. By discarding the leftover paints onto this secondary "reconstructed" canvas, the artist prevents the unnecessary disposal or waste of resources and minimizes the environmental footprint of her studio practice.

The end effect is an eye-catching and resource-conscious wall sculpture. For this painting, the artist poured diluted paints on to the canvas using stain painting methods which highlight disparities in the canvas materials. The stain effects produce hues ranging from faded coral to brick red reminiscent of the distinctive Nantucket Red trousers from Nantucket Island, which combined with the linear construction, suggest a delightfully abstract sunset.
