Hand-knotted in wool and silk, this 3x5 modern rug is a bold addition to the Block Print line of Rug & Kilim’s Modern Classics Collection—a sophisticated and elegant new approach to a historic style.


On the Design:

Beige-brown hues underscore a repeat of geometric-floral patterns, with especially present rust orange and silver-gray tones. Though this form represents a more minimalist approach, admirers of the craft and keen eyes will note inspiration from the many provenances known for repeating it in dense, deftly woven designs as this—a thoughtful and elegant new take on a traditional look. This particular rug draws inspiration from antique Khotan Samarkand rugs of East Turkestan, known for these particular pomegranate motifs, cloudband borders, and several other motifs keen eyes and admirers of our craft may note within.

The block printing process is one of the oldest in textile design and has seen many adaptations. To wit, many of our designs draw on time-honored, even archaic designs, such as 17th-century Mogul rug patterns that allow admirers of the craft to make their own personal connection. Some of our contributions to the aesthetic include a subtle high-low texture for an added sense of dimension, a wool-and-silk blend that creates a more elegant play of the light, and a wider range of vibrant, contemporary colors that brighten and enrich a room. Above all, comfort was the priority, as it is in all of our custom collections.
