Tall, slender and unmistakably French, these 19th-century Louis Philippe mirrors are water-gilded in silver leaf, the old-world technique behind that soft, liquid glow. Each frame is worked top to bottom in a crisp geometric pattern, finished with diagonal striping down the legs — a graphic flourish that feels startlingly modern for the 1880s. The silver has softened with time into a rich, layered patina.

Finding one this refined is a good day. Finding a matched pair is the kind of thing we still talk about.

Flank a doorway, bookend a console, or hang them side by side to stretch a narrow wall all the way to the ceiling.

France, circa 1880s.
