Antique Taxco Mexico sterling silver pill box.
Approx: 1 1/2”
The history of Taxco jewelry dates back to the early 20th century when an American artist, William Spratling, arrived in the town. Recognizing the exceptional craftsmanship of the local artisans and the abundance of silver in the region, Spratling played a pivotal role in reviving the silver industry in Taxco.
Vintage mid-century Taxco silverwork is a perfect example of jewelry as art. Each designer that produced in the area from the 1930-1960’s had a signature style and motif they explored in their jewelry designs, while hand crafting each piece of amazing jewelry. The heft and weight of the silver, the evidence of the hand of an artist, the reference to abstract forms and modernist design, combined with the impeccable quality of the workmanship, is distinctive and unique to this era of jewelry design, in Taxco, Mexico.
