The painter Georg Julius Willy Meyer lived from 1890 to 1958.
He served in the front line in the First World War and was seriously wounded by a shot in the head.
In later years he processed the cruelty of war in his paintings; this oil painting shows the front line with all its anti-aircraft searchlights in an abstract form.
In 1940 his works were shown at the Oldenburg State Museum under the title "War Landscape - In the Age of Material Battle".
In 1968 the city of Oldenburg dedicated a memorial exhibition to him.
