Tatsuo Ito (Ryo) was born in Manchuria, grew up in Japan where he was trained in the traditional Rinpa painting style, and eventually relocated to Hawaii where he gained some amount of notoriety in the 1970s blending the Rinpa style with studies of Hawaii's boldly-colored flora. This particular work (noted as #1086, but untitled) was purchased from the artist by my mother in 1970 at his gallery in Hawaii. It has been packaged and stored since 1971 when my mother moved back to the mainland. See less
