She and idealized features and sits slightly … Read more Antique Georgian oil on canvas portrait painting. Subject is Mary Deveraux Pryce (1696-1740). She and idealized features and sits slightly turned with one hand raised to the chest; which is typical of aristocratic portraiture of the Georgian period. She is wearing a voluminous blue silk dress with a curtain to the left and landscape background to the right. This large painting is wonderfully detailed with vibrant colors. There is some inpainting in the background. Overall a wonderful piece that can accommodate a large room. Please see the photos with the ruler on it for scale. It does appear that the frame is not original, likely 19th or 20th century.

This portrait is likely Ms. Pryce's wedding portrait in 1725. She was the daughter of Price Deveraux, the 9th Viscount of Hereford. She married William Pryce of Rhiwlas. This information is found in various places front an back of the painting and on a slip from the previous owners purchase from an antique gallery in Atlanta many years ago.
