The Midnight Coffee at Claridge’s.
London is roaring, but with a certain... restraint.
The jazz is hot, the champagne is cold, but the conversation? That requires something more grounding. After the fox-trot and before the sunrise, there is the demitasse.
It isn’t just coffee. It’s the punctuation mark at the end of a very long, very brilliant sentence.
The Patrician.
Wedgwood knew what they were doing when they named this pattern. It doesn’t scream for attention; it commands it through a whisper of cream-colored earthenware and that unmistakable embossed floral border—intricate, architectural, and deeply civilized.
These are not the clunky mugs of a Monday morning. These are the vessels of diplomats, poets, and people who understand that a small cup of strong coffee is often the only thing standing between order and chaos.
The Provenance: Created in 1922. A vintage that saw the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and the publication of Ulysses.
The Detail: The "Patrician" mold. Creamware as smooth as a polished pebble, featuring the iconic amber-toned scrollwork.
The Set: Fourteen cups. Fourteen saucers. Enough for a dinner party that people will still be talking about in 2026.
Perfect for espresso, Turkish coffee, or perhaps just sitting on a mahogany sideboard looking evocative.
The Condition: Remarkable. They’ve survived a century of gossip and steam without losing their dignity.
Note: I am including two cups and two saucers not shown in the photos, for a total 28 pieces.
