“Serpentine” sofa was created by designer Vladimir Kagan for Kagan NYC in the 1950s. Born in Germany, Vladimir Kagan grew up in a family cabinetmaking business in the United States, where his father was already a craftsman. Guided by an organic artistic approach, he pushed the limits of traditional furniture to create unique pieces, true works of art that transform the atmosphere of a room. His legacy still inspires designers around the world, making him an icon of contemporary design.
S-shaped design allows freedom of passage all around, breaking with the classic idea of a sofa leaning against a wall. Its organic design also encourages conversations. Designed for mobile use, this sofa encourages movement rather than favoring a prolonged static position. This creation dates back to the 1950s, a time when furniture was often sober, functional and devoid of ornaments. This sofa stands out for its innovative and avant-garde approach, making it timeless. Its contemporary shape allows it to adapt to different styles and eras, making it a timeless piece of furniture.
The structure of this sofa is made of wood and filled with polyurethane foam. The base is in brushed aluminum, it is made up of two circles at the ends of the seat and a central rod. Its covering is made with a beige terry fabric. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
