The red leather on the front & rear boards and gilt spine with raised bands are the perfect showcase for the treasures within. The stunning gilt decorative devices show detailed castles, fleur de lis, and crowned dragons, just to name a few. This folio is the epitome of timeless elegance. A folio is a large book of 15″ or taller. Touraine is one of the traditional provinces of France and an Appellation d' Origine Contrôlée — used to certify the geographical origins of wines, cheeses, and other agricultural products in France. This is a great opportunity to add to, or begin, your rare book collection. Lavishly bound; including gilded edges, in-folio full shagreen, steel engravings, four in Chromolithography (reproduction by impression on a limestone) (all behind tissue) and a map. 610 pages. Original edition and first printing.

There are age appropriate marks, scratches and some small areas of discoloration from almost 170 years of use. The front board is no longer attached to the spine, shown clearly in photo number eight. There is rubbing to the edges, spine, raised bands and points of corners. Throughout the bookblock, there is tanning, foxing, and scattered staining on some of the pages. One of the back pages has writing on it. All of these things are commensurate with age and and loving maintenance that add to the character of this incredible folio.
