A lovely pair of color sketches on ivory art paper of a woman and a man in theatrical German peasant costumes. Hand colored, with German text in pencil, stamped, presented in a triple mat and molded wood frames with scrolling details, antique bronze finish, glass front. Sight dimensions - 7.75" x 12.75".
It appears that the man's costume is designed for a character or actor Mazetto Juttner. (written in the upper left corner). Soicher-Marin label on the back calls this "Theatrical Peasant Costumes" with the style number P-5543A (no longer listed on their website).
It appears that the woman's costume is designed for a character or actress Zerline Stumpf (written in the upper right corner). Soicher-Marin label on the back calls this "Caricatures of Costumes at the Market" with the tyle number: BUT-050C (no longer listed on their website).
The sketch of the man's costume is signed in the lower left corner. The signature is not decipherable, but the initials are V.B.
Do not know age of prints. Soicher-Marin was established in 1959 so I dated them in the 1960s.
