A set of beautifully painted 12 card trays and 5 containers for game chips/counters fits neatly inside the box.
The twelve card trays were designed specifically for the Regency card game of 'Pope Joan': four trays gilded with Chinese scenes along with eight 'boodle' trays having representations of the early playing cards - King, Queen, Knave, Matrimony, Intrigue, Game, 9 of diamonds, ace of diamonds; these were the trays on which players place bets at the start of each game.
Made for the European market exported from China by the East India Company during the British Regency era, circa 1795 -1837. See less
