Korhogo cloth is created with neutral and earthy tones and are made by hand painting designs on hand woven, spun cotton. Decorated with symbols of humans, animals, and plants that are rooted in Senufo culture and mythology. This lovely piece is beautifully professionally framed and mounted on a natural cotton and wood frame. Collected in the late 60s. Framed 45" x 32"

An entire Senufo village takes part in the creation of Korhogo cloth. Both men and women cultivate the cotton which women spin into yarn. Using hand looms, men weave 4” wide strips of cloth which they sew into a large canvas. Women make a dye created from swamp mud saturated with decaying roots and mixed with boiled leaves. This fermented mud-based dye darkens over time. An iron-bonding agent found in the mud causes the fibers to absorb and hold the dye, resulting in a permanent color. See less
