Handwoven in wool, this rare 5×12 vintage Bessarabian kilim is believed to originate from Turkey circa 1950-1960. Its design features a thoughtful play of gentle floral patterns with equally gentle transitions in various colors.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft will appreciate the richness of Bessarabian designs, with a sensibility that only a few rugs of this lineage have been curated. Its colorway enjoys a wide range of light and playful hues in both the border and the field’s medallions (floral sprays), each underscored by a tasteful chocolate brown. This rug is one of the most wonderful marriages of floral art and elegant, impressionistic sensibilities together, with many of the elements of Aubussons and similar French European designs that doubtlessly played a hand in the inspiration. It’s a fine play of rustic floral patterns in a reserved, sophisticated manner, and its size offers vast design applications, making it well suited to other decorative purposes.
Condition:
This vintage Bessarabian kilim enjoys great condition for its age and origin. It is a very collectible piece and is ready for the floor.
