This impressive animal sculpture of a grazing foal is an outstanding example of German studio ceramics from the Classical Modernist period. The piece was designed at the renowned Grootenburg workshop under the direction of Paul Dresler (1879–1950), a pioneer of modern ceramic art in Germany.
The object captivates with its powerful, abstract form and the copper luster glaze that is iconic of Dresler. This special firing technique gives the surface a deep, metallic sheen that shimmers between deep black, emerald green, and metallic blue depending on the angle of the light. The striking crackle network covering the entire figure underscores its sculptural character and makes each piece unique.
Measuring 25 cm in length, this is the rare large version, which, compared to the smaller variants, has a significantly stronger presence in the room.
