This 1955 oil on canvas allegorical Expressionist scene entitled "Evil" is by Polish-born New York Expressionist Jennings Tofel (1891-1959). Tofel was a friend of Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz. He received an art grant to work in Paris in the 1920s. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Tofel is known for his allegorical, Expressionist figurative scenes.
Titled and date on reverse, signed lower left.
