This circa 1970 gouache on paper abstract with red and black is by New York/San Francisco Abstract Expressionist artist Gary Lee Shaffer (1936-2001). Shaffer trained with Hans Hofmann in the late 1950s and became an influential member of the Printmakers Workshop in Manhattan. His works are in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Shaffer lived and worked in San Francisco and published his prints at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA from the 1970s until his death in 2001.
Estate stamped lower right.
The piece will be shipped in a mat to fit a standard sized frame.
