This set of four unique Art Deco Amsterdam School chairs, crafted with high-quality craftsmanship in the Netherlands in the 1930s, was designed and made by the renowned furniture manufacturer 't Woonhuys from Amsterdam. The chairs feature distinctive shapes, crafted from a combination of mahogany and oak, showcasing exceptional attention to detail. The original seats were reupholstered in the 1950s with sturdy, colorful fabric, adding a touch of vintage charm to their timeless design.
A rare and striking addition to any interior, these chairs combine the elegance of the Art Deco period with the artistry of the Amsterdam School.
The Amsterdam furniture company 't Woonhuys is closely linked to the origins of the Amsterdam School, a decorative and luxurious style that emerged in the Netherlands around 1915. Until then, 't Woonhuys mainly worked in historicizing styles that were executed by highly qualified craftsmen, using precious materials. The furniture was mainly sold to people with money. The furniture was too expensive for the common man.
Michel de Klerk and Hildo Krop were some of the leading designers with respect for the architecture of the Amsterdam school.
