Expertise by Professor Giancarlo Sestieri
Vincenzo Re (1695 - 1762), born in Parma, was an Italian set designer who during his career worked initially as an assistant and then as head set designer at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. The work is an example of typical architectural capriccio. It represents an architectural fantasy that depicts a colonnade located on the shore of a lagoon. In this imaginary place Vincenzo Re set the episode of the Pool of Bethesda, in which Jesus Christ heals a paralytic man in a tub of water in Jerusalem. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
