This artistic appreciation of the macaw is life-sized and quite majestic! Similar sculptures found across the internet date anywhere from Art Deco to 1970's, but no conclusive information was found. We also found no makers marks of any kind.
Though the yellowish hew seems to indicate brass, there is a very slight magnetism to the metal on the bird only (not the perch rod) that may indicate a bronze alloy. The wood base, which has wear on the top corners from contact with the parrot's tail, is made of several solid pieces held together in the stepped design.
The wood base is 7 1/2” square at the bottom, 5” square at the top, and 12” tall. The perch is 15 1/2” tall. The bird measures 39 1/2” from the top of its head to the tip of its tail, 6” wide across the shoulders. Altogether, the sculpture and base weigh about 26 pounds.
