Zita Sudnika, The moon and the horse. 2016. Oil on canvas, 71x91 cm
The painting depicts a hauntingly beautiful scene of a solitary horse standing in the foreground, its majestic form shrouded in a deep, rich purple fog that seems to envelop it like a misty cloak. The horse stands statue-still, its eyes gleaming with a sense of longing or melancholy. The fog or so called dusty environment is so dense that it partially obscures horse's body, which allows the horse to blend into the background, adding mystery to the picture.
In the background, a massive yellow sun rises over the horse's back, casting a warm glow over the scene that seems to be at odds with the horse's somber mood. The sun's rays are refracted through the fog, casting a kaleidoscope of colors across the landscape - blues, purples, and pinks - that add to the sense of mystery and enchantment. The overall effect is one of eerie beauty, as if the horse has been transported to a dreamworld where time and reality no longer hold sway.
