a prolific artist, pierre jules mêne 1810-1879, established himself as one of the leading french animal sculptors of the 19th century.
as early as 1838, he took part in the paris salon; he set up his own foundry workshop, casting and chasing his own work.
his taste for animal sculpture, and above all the quality of his work, made him a great success.
