Timelessly formal candlestick of german modernism / new german objectivity.
a wonderful design by wolfgang von wersin for the eugen wiedamann pewter factory in regensburg.
clear and high-quality design language - simple and good.
comparable to a perfect tree with a solid root system, a central tree trunk and a radially even tree crown, the candlestick in a sense adopts this perfect architecture in strictly geometric basic shapes.
the choice of material is also absolutely consistent and on point.
the candlestick would of course also have made a wonderful object in silver, but especially the version in tin,
a “down-to-earth” material that fits the simple-looking design perfectly.
it is the model mt137 c from 1936.
listed in wolfgang von wersin's catalog of works.
version c was the most extensive version with 6 arms,\.b had 4 arms,\.a only 2 arms.
according to the factory archives, this ball as a shaft end was made of tin, like this version, as well as plexiglas (see factory photo).
the 6 original drip trays are also made of acrylic glass, which you can use or not depending on your preference.
ø candlestick crown 33 cm including drip trays (ø 6 cm)
ø base/foot 16.5 cm
ø candle hole 1.4 cm
the chandelier is in great condition. It was extensively polished, preserved and perfectly and lovingly restored while retaining the original substance.
signed on the underside with the tin manufacturer's mark e.w.regensburg (eugen wiedamann regensburg).
even if the word “rare” is used in an inflationary way, it is really appropriate here.
a truly rare object of german modernism, bauhaus-oriented objectivity and craftsmanship are convincing. This piece has an attribution mark,
i am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity
