Earthy color palette of indigo blue, … Read more Lustrous Turkish/Kurdish antique wool double niche carpet, formal Persian in design but charmingly executed. Earthy color palette of indigo blue, brick red, russet, shell pink, stone and sand. Literally hundreds of flowers trail along borders and surround the center diamonds. 8-sided star motif throughout. Butterflies/moths and a stylized tulip dot the 4 spandrel (corner) areas. Stylized tree of life motif outlines innermost border. This is such a lovely carpet--and soft! Could be used as a meditation/prayer carpet. I could also picture this in a formal dressing area with beautiful wood accents.
A prior owner clearly treasured it enough to invest in restorations. There are 3 areas where the carpet was patched, shown in detail and on the reverse. The selvage has been reinforced in a few areas and both ends have been hand secured. There is still some fraying in areas. There are areas in the stone and sand colors where the pile has oxidated, a natural process. There are a few areas, like the very center, where the pile is worn to the foundation. See less
