He painted this gouache study, then pencil signed "Harvest Home, Harvest Home, Ne'er a Load's Been Overthrown." This is quite possibly a study for one of the artist’s commissioned murals. Machefert created school murals for the Federal Art Project (FAP) which was created in 1935, during the depression, to provide work relief for artists in various media. The program sought to bring art and artists into the everyday life of communities throughout the US. Image measures 10"h x 14"w. Bronze with blue accent wood frame & glass are 12 years old, from Florenz Gallery in LA. Artist signature & 9/16/36 date are on the reverse of the piece, behind the frame. Artist exhibited at the Calif. Art Club in 1935 & the NY World's Fair in 1939. See less
