Originating from Persia in 1880, this antique Persian runner is hand-knotted in high-quality wool, featuring a Heriz design. Named for one of the most time-honored centers of Persian rug production in history, the field design repeats several tribal variations of the oriental ram’s horn motif, signifying fertility, power, and protection in complementary red, green, blue, and beige medallions against a stark black background. The curvilinear vine scroll in the central border is emboldened by a beige background, lending dimensionality between the field and the wrapping red guard border with its expansive, intricately woven pattern.
