I was lucky enough to recently acquire an excellent collection of the work of important Maine artist Norman Merritt. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. These works all come from a collector who bought quite a few of the artist's works from his gallery in Maine. I acquired both paintings and etchings and am offering both in my store. If you collect the artist or Maine works, check my store for the others I am offering. This is a wonderful view of Fishing boats in Boothbay Harbor Maine. Watercolor and gouache on paper measuring 15 x 22 inches. Signed lower left. Painting is in perfect as painted condition. It is taped verso at the top edge into the back of the double matte as the artist created it for sale. Shrink wrapped with original title label attached to the outside lower left corner. Artists original gallery label on the backing cardboard. Really a stunning work ready for framing. Matte measures 22 x 28 inches. For those not familiar with the artist his biography from the Bangor Public Library reads: "Norman Merritt studied at, and was elected a life member of the Art Students League of New York. For a number of years he has conducted the Norman Merritt Studio-Gallery on Route 27 at Mill Cove, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Here, during the summertime, the gallery houses an exhibition of the artist's paintings; and is also the headquarters for his out-of-door art classes. An experienced draughtsman, etcher and painter, his works are owned by scores of collectors throughout the United States and foreign countries." Mr. Merritt died in 1994." See less
