Substantial period Berkeley School abstract expressionist landscape titled "Treescape" by listed Berkeley artist Marjorie Cathcart (American, 1913-2003). Signed left edge; signed and titled on verso. Marjorie Cathcart earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of California, Berkeley in 1943. She studied with Lundy Seigrist, Catherine Hagen, Tom Holland, Anne O’Hanlon and influenced by Wayne Theibaud. She was a member of Marin Society of Artists, San Francisco Women Artists and President of Oakland Art Association. Exhibitions included: Annual International Art Festival, San Francisco; California State Art Exposition; Jack London Fair; and 1st place at California State Fair in 1967. Marjorie Cathcart is listed in: Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940"; "Women Artists of the American West"; "Yesterday's Artists of the Monterey Peninsula"; Monterey: The Artist's View, 1925-1945"; and "Artists of the American West."
