Hand knotted in durable, quality wool, the black and maroon red medallions are emboldened against a subtly textured brown background with complementary spandrels, elevating the eight-pointed star, hook, and Boteh symbols (representing the mother goddess womb, protection, and the flame of the universe respectively). Several of these symbols repeat in perfect alternation against the beige innermost border (mirrored flawlessly in the guard border), but what is additionally uncommon is that the middle border adds a veiled reference to the indigo blue Herati symbol among this rug’s lexicon, implying a historically diverse weaver with particular worldliness.
