It is a beautifully-crafted, hand-turned piece of furniture, and has been completely refinished to reveal a beautiful natural wood tone. It would fit with many different styles of decor, from traditional to modern.

About the maker:
Alfred Assid, though not widely remembered, was an esteemed maker of fine furniture throughout the 1950's and 60's. Assid, a championship boxer in his youth, specialized in woodworking in high school and began making his own furniture and cabinetry shortly after graduation. His talents became well known locally, and by 1945 he had opened a factory in Okemos, Michigan that produced expertly-made, hand-turned furniture, often crafted from antique pine.

Within a few years the company was selling nationwide, exclusively through interior designers and high-end furniture shops and trade shows. Alfred Assid pieces were sold alongside those of Sligh-Lowry, John Stuart, and William A. Berkey. From tables to cabinets to small casegoods, his work had wide appeal while remaining uniquely personal. See less
