The Lurs are a tribe in southwest Persia (also Loristan). Lori (also Luri) rugs are also known as Loribaft. The additional syllable “baft” means “tied”. Translated, Loribaft means Luren weaving. Lori rugs traditionally have imaginative geometric patterns that are colorfully designed. Modern Lori are now usually designed in a simpler way with monochrome designs. However, there are still traditional, stylized and geometric motifs from the everyday life of nomads, such as goats, camels, dogs, plants or people. The geometric pattern and friendly colors create a pleasant, warm living atmosphere. Pattern The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this loris. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take away attention from the furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends fantastically into any environment and subtly complements the décor of a room. The surface of this loris appears mottled. The color changes and light-dark shades of the pile yarn run across the length of the carpet, making the colors shimmer and making the rug insensitive to dirt. The rug looks more lively because of these so-called color jumps. The mottled effect is because the wool of this lori was hand-spun. When coloring, the natural dyes are absorbed differently. The repeating elements of this Lori rug have no specific center. The recurring repeat pattern has a calming but not boring effect. Rugs with a repeat pattern are also known as patterned. The background of this loris is dark red. Material This hand-knotted Lori rug has a dense, relatively high pile. The sheep's wool that is used for the pile of the Lori rugs is particularly high quality and contains fat. Lori rugs are very comfortable and durable. Traditionally, Lori rugs – like the Gabbeh – were used for sleeping. They invite you to sit and lounge around in the living room, but are also ideal for passageways and in the dining area. The pile of the Lori rugs made of sheep's wool is dyed with natural dyes and hand-spun. This gives the lorises their soft surface. Hand-spun wool is always somewhat irregular. When coloring, the natural dyes are absorbed differently. The rug appears more lively, there are so-called color jumps (abrasch), i.e. light-dark color shades. The color changes of the pile yarn always run transversely to the longitudinal direction of the Lori and make the rug insensitive to dirt. The weft and warp threads of this loris are made of cotton. The versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchy and therefore particularly suitable for a durable underlay. less
