Legends, anecdotes and history of the old days in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains of New York, with contemporary travel notes, including information of the activities and life at Lake Placid. Early discusses Washington Irving and the legend of Rip Van Winkle and writes about several figures who had visited or were significant figures in the region, including General Grant, Diamond Jim Brady, Robert Louis Stevenson, Dr. Trudeau and the founding of the tuberculosis settlement at Saranac Lake, and of Fort Ticonderoga, the lakes, and more.
