A STUNNING collection is one in a million, 6 matching set pieces. This set is a remarkable, intact collection from a bed dating from the 18th century, c 1780. I've not been able to even document this toile, it's so rare and exciting! This collection is comprised of a large ( the bed shown is a queen) bed cover with long side valances, a large pelmet shown draped from the ciel de lit, a thin valance show attached to the bottom of the bed cover, a bedhead slip cover ( shown wrapped around as a pillow) and a fabulous decorative drop for behind the bed. These textiles are all printed linen and cotton blend ( siamoise) with a linen backing. They are all 100% hand stitched and quilted with a thin cotton batting. This collection would make an extraordinary statement in any period interior or would be a wonderful addition to any museum. This toile is French with a wonderful faded rose tone, this piece is wonderfully unevenly faded which shows the direction of the light that once brought these textiles to life all of those hundreds of years ago.
