This 6x9 vintage rug is believed to be a rare mid-century Ersari rug, hand-knotted in wool and originating in Turkey circa 1950-1960.
On the Design:
The Ersari are a sub-tribe of the Turkmen people, often known for their more distinct tribal rug designs.
In this rug, bright red and blue tones underscore a play of medallion and all over style geometric patterns.
Colors have aged beautifully, particularly in the brightest hues such as the white accents. One seldom sees such crisp and lively tones in a vintage rug of this period.
This is a collectible and rich work of folk art with a more dense repeat than many of its provenance enjoy as well.
Condition:
The rug thrives in good condition for its age and lineage.
