CIrca 1910 unusual chalkware 'Man In The Moon' advertising piece for Admiration cigars. This is an adorable mascot that would have had a cigar in his mouth and would have likely hung over a display of fine cigars. It's all about the quality of the hand painting with this piece and this one has excellent color and details. You won't be disappointed with this nice piece of cigar advertising history! It would make a great addition to your Tobacciana collection!

Condition:
Decent antique condition with several imperfections which are marks of its age and history. There are small chips present on the nose, right eyebrow, top of head, and mouth, along with a subtle paint repair on the nose. The mouth would have held a cigar or matches but the the spot on the side of his mouth is empty and there is a lack of paint. Additionally, a large chunk is missing from the back, and there are chips on the back rim, but the hook still feels secure. Please see all photos for specific details on the condition of the sign.
About Admiration Cigars:
This brand was made by J.C. Newman Cigar Company, which started making cigars in 1895 in Ohio. Newman later moved his main factory to Tampa, the U.S. cigar capital, in 1910. Before the move, The company's Admiration Cigars, its second cigar brand, were being made at the turn of the century. The company adopted the man in the moon mascot for display in the country's finest tobacco shops.
