From the Marina Picasso Collection, this work was produced in 1962 as an illustration for the book, Regards Sur Paris. Ten writers (including Alexandre Arnoux and other authors) contributed essays to this book, which presents the different sights and scenes of Paris. Each text is illustrated by a different artist with 2 full-page and I double page lithograph. All three of Picasso’s lithographs are dated July, 6, 1962, and explore the theme of the artist and his model. In this work, we see a contemplative artist at his easel.
Total book edition of 180, plus 40 suites and proofs. An artist’s proof apart from the edition printed for the Suites of 40 on Imperial Japon.
This Artist’s Proof Lithograph on Japon nacre paper is annotated in pencil, “reprieve d’ artiste” (artist’s proof), lower left. Signed posthumously with the Estate Signature Stamp, lower right. Undetermined penciled numbering lower left 11 18 / 38. The “38” might represent #38 of 40 EA.
Provenance: Marina Picasso Collection with her oval stamp on verso.
Inventory No. 51589 as recorded in the Picasso archives, Paris.
