Wall cabinet / sideboard in yellow made of wood, lacquered foil/plastic and metal snap fasteners from the 'Softline' series by the visionary designer Otto Zapf (1931 - 2018) for Zapf Design / Germany, design from 1969.
The combination of Pop Art, functionality, flexibility and modular design are groundbreaking. Through the use of experimental materials, Zapf belongs to the avant-garde of the 1960s. Worthy of note in his CV are his years of collaboration with Dieter Rams and Niels Wiese Vitsoe. Zapf designed for Knoll, Cor, Lufthansa, De Sede and B&B Italia, among others. In 2020, a retrospective was curated in Eschborn near Frankfurt in honor of his work. The 'Softline' series is exhibited in the permanent exhibition of the 'Neue Pinakothek' in Munich.
The wall shelf offered is delivered assembled, but can be disassembled and combined with other elements in this series. Our shelf consists of three yellow shelves, one of which acts as a suspension (top) and is mounted on the wall using two angle irons, as well as four yellow side panels to which the lower boards are attached. Despite the flexible assembly with push buttons and the flexible elements, the system is well built and very stable.
There are also two yellow panels/cover plates that can be buttoned on both the back and front. The closet can therefore be used both open and closed. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
