This charming early 1800s French Empire watercolor on paper features a fine lady seated upon a récamier. She wears a stylish high-waisted neoclassical dress and matching bonnet, note her wispy curls protruding from it. Other details include the intricate lace trim on her collar, sleeves and cap, the dainty blue bodice ribbon, the chain and magnifying glass around her neck and small brooch under her chin. She appears to be drawing in her sketch book, perhaps the castle and bridge in the background. Her pensive smile is captivating.
Framed in gold gilt frame, probably the original-at least of the same period.
