It is signed and dated (1877) in the lower right corner .
The painting depicts a winter scene in Amsterdam. In the foreground, ships can be seen frozen in a harbor. People work and walk around the ice. Several can be seen ice skating.
Amsterdam’s iconic Muttoren tower can be seen in the background.
