This FABULOUS panther TV lamp is hard to find and highly collectible. Similar reclining or stalking panther lamps can be found, but not this beauty with the sleek cat elegantly gazing backward. This piece can make a room while providing dreamy, mood-setting glow.
Early television watchers were warned of eye damage thought to be caused by watching TV in a dark room. TV lamps were manufactured due to a demand for indirect light sources to soothe the eyes while watching.
By the 1950s, TV lamps were made in a huge variety of "exotic" and interesting subjects: horses, birds, panthers, ducks, poodles and more. Most were highly-glossed ceramic with a low-wattage bulb discreetly hidden in the back of the figurine. This back-lit glow was apparently better for the eyes. Not sure we need to worry about this today, but the appeal is timeless!

Lamp is in wonderful condition for its age. The light socket is loose, but doesn't affect usage. The panther rattles when shaken--something must have broken off inside over the decades. Thankfully, it has no affect on the use of this beautiful piece. Measurments are estimates.
