Satsuma Kiriko Crystal Sake Cup by Shimadzu, Double Layer Method with Curved Cuts

This sake glass was hand made by Shimadzu, Ltd, in Kagoshima prefecture, Japan.
It is a type of "Edo Kiriko" which is traditional Japanese art form of cut glass (kiriko) that developed around the city of Edo (historical name for Tokyo).
"Satsuma Kiriko" is distinct from Edo Kiriko by its use of more gently sloping cuts in the colored layers, resulting in softer gradation of color around the cut pattern.
This piece is particularly special for two reasons:
1. Shimadzu used a new, two-color overlay method (developed in 2001) to produce this "Shimadzu purple" color. The two colors are crimson red and cobalt blue -- there is no purple glass in this piece!
2. The use of curved cuts, which are much more difficult to achieve than straight cuts. The curves cuts create a flowing pattern and allow even more gradation of the colors.
MARKINGS
Signed "Shimadzu" with the Shimadzu logo (equilateral cross within a circle) via etching on lower portion of the glass. (Please see photo #5.)

Orders where Free Local Pickup or Seller Managed Local Delivery were selected:
- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
- Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final
- International, cross-border returns may require different processes depending on the countries between which the item is shipping to/from, and the buyer is responsible and duties (if applicable, on cross-border orders).

Cancellations

- Deliveries can take anywhere from 6 to 9 weeks to be delivered.
- Chairish Freight Delivery
- Delivered in a crate, to your front door.
- You will need tools and/or equipment to open the crate.

- Chairish Freight deliveries can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.
