Photos are representative of the most noticeable blemishes and do not constitute a complete catalog of every flaw We think the side rails originally went with a different bed (which we believe was a queen), but they are a very tight fit, making the bed quite stable. This opens up the possibility of adapting this bed to fit a queen sized mattress if you're willing to have the mattress a small bit wider than the headboards and footboards, and open to having the mattress sit above the side rails. If you retrofit with a queen, the rails should be deep enough to accomodate the mattress, but you'll have to find a way for it to sit on top of the side rails rather than inside. less
